There are more specific AI generators too, such as the headshot generator, which is great for creating a professional headshot if you're unable to take your own photo. Fotor also boasts a profile pic maker, which saves you time as opposed to creating profile pics in Canva. I also like the fun generators, such as the AI baby generator, which allows you to plug in images of yourself and another person and generate what your future baby could look like. Similarly, there's the face swap feature, where you can swap your face with someone else's while keeping the rest of your body and image intact. AI Image Editing Tools AI is great for generating images from scratch, but Fotor really shines as an AI editing tool for a variety of uses. The AI expand tool -- which is comprable to Photoshop and Canva's expand tools -- is helpful if your photo's composition doesn't have enough space around the subject. Easily add more sky or background to recompose your photo. Along with the expand tool are the erase and replace tools, which both use AI to fill in the gaps in your image or replace them with something new. You can also remove, replace, or blur the background in a similar fashion. Fotor's AI skin retouch tool can help clear up blemishes in photos, offering a smooth but natural skin tone quickly. If the face in your image is out of focus, the face unblurring feature can help fix that. There's also a one-tap image enhancer, which can quickly fix a slew of problems in your entire image. Finally, there's an old photo restorer, which uses AI to brighten colors, remove creases or rips, and sharpen up old, blurred edges from photos of the past. This tool brings life back to old family images. AI Image Effects AI doesn't have to be used for practical reasons, you can apply AI effects to your images simply just for fun. Fashion brand Mango launches AI-generated photorealistic campaign

European fashion brand Mango has unveiled an AI-generated image campaign for its limited-edition Sunset Dream collection from its youth line. According to a press release, the campaign is the result of a collaboration between "design, art and style, training of Mango Teen's datasets and AI models and its photography studio, among others." The process began with a photographer taking "real photos" of the collection's garments. The real images were then fed into a generative AI model that had been trained to correctly position the actual garments. Mango explains that the biggest challenge was to achieve images of the same editorial quality as a standard fashion campaign with real models. The images were "retouched, edited and mastered" by the in-house photography studio. "This initiative reflects our continued commitment to innovation and our desire to be at the forefront of the fashion world," says Jordi Alex, Mango's Director of Information Technology. "Artificial intelligence is a technological revolution that presents great opportunities and should serve as a co-pilot to extend the capabilities of our employees and further amplify our creativity. Because either technology will make us more human, or it will not make us more human." What's striking about the few images Mango has released is their realism. The AI-generated images look like real photos taken in the medina of Marrakech, Morocco; there's no way to identify them as synthetic. Viewers could easily glance at the image without knowing it's AI-generated. "Any brand that produces AI-generated advertising campaigns begins to question the authenticity, integrity and most importantly the honesty of that brand," says Iain Philpott on X (formerly Twitter). "It's all fake news. Where does it end?" Mango affirms its commitment to innovation and claims that this is the first fashion campaign generated entirely by artificial intelligence. The Barcelona-based company claims to have "more than fifteen different platforms that apply artificial intelligence at different points in its value chain, such as pricing and customization." Mango says it already uses an AI image generator to help it design clothes and find inspiration not only for clothing, but also for its window dressing, architecture and interior design.

Photoroom Wants to Create 'Useful AI' for Small Businesses

Were you one of the 13 million people who used the Barbie Selfie Generator last summer to add yourself to a digital movie poster? If so, you're already familiar with AI photo editing platform Photoroom. The Paris-based startup made the Barbie selfies possible. But it's best known for a tool for small businesses that removes backgrounds from images. So, for example, if you're selling pingpong tables on a third-party marketplace like Amazon or eBay, you can isolate the table from the background in a preexisting image to make the picture your own. AI-powered image generation is a hot ticket for tech companies big and small. And while many, like OpenAI and Midjourney, are focused on creating one-of-a-kind images and videos, Photoroom is taking a slightly different approach. So far, the startup has mostly been focused on commerce photography for small businesses, though CEO Matthieu Rouif said he'd also like to work more with big outfits like entertainment company Warner Bros., which distributed the Barbie movie. Rouif got frustrated by manually removing backgrounds in Photoshop when he was working as a product manager at camera company GoPro, says the Photoroom website. He studied machine learning, partnered with machine learning and computer vision engineer Eliot Andres, and together they founded Photoroom in 2019. "We try to do useful AI," Rouif said. "We don't start from the lab and push the technology. We start from user need and then develop algorithms based on what they need." Rouif did some of his research at a Paris McDonald's, where he's now banned, he says, after he offered to pay for meals in exchange for asking customers waiting in line to download the app and answer a few questions. However, talking to users led to the realization that many small businesses were using mobile devices to sell goods on sites like eBay and Poshmark. "On these platforms, you need the right background, and we had amazing technology on segmentation, which is removing the background," Rouif said. "And this is where Photoroom started to take off." The background removal tool allows small-business owners to edit product images themselves without having to hire photographers. This became more of a necessity in 2020 when COVID-related shutdowns boosted e-commerce, which meant more demand for listings, and that businesses couldn't work in person with photographers anyway. Photoroom has since expanded to offer additional tools, like a batch photo editor, which lets you edit multiple photos at once, along with a retouching tool and AI offerings for additional editing needs like resizing or expanding. By editing product images to add shadows, for instance, small businesses can make their listings look more professional and stand out from competitors, Rouif said. "Our goal is to be useful to small businesses," he added. "We believe AI is leveling the playing field and it's actually very impactful for small businesses." To date, Photoroom has built more than 15 AI models and trained them with a mix of licensed data from photographers and stock photography providers. It's also relied on feedback from its photo editor community. Photoroom has 30 million active users. From here, Photoroom plans to make it easier for small-business users to collaborate, and to work with bigger companies as well. The startup is backed by about $60 million, including a Series B round in early 2024.
