With an aim to woo more users, OpenAI has announced that it will now let ChatGPT's free users generate AI-based images with the help of the advanced DALL·E 3 model. Notably, DALL-E 3 was announced in September, and this feature was initially limited to paid subscribers. Here's more about the new feature for free users. In order to generate images on ChatGPT, users will need to open ChatGPT and start a new conversation. Next, they will have to type their prompt, beginning. ChatGPT will then produce the image based on their request, and they can download the generated image. On the Other hand, OpenAI announced the company's version of Google Search, called SearchGPT, last month. Instead of showing you a list of search results, it directly answers your question. The response is said to be thorough, with step-by-step details and relevant images. SearchGPT uses AI, including Natural Language Processing and proprietary GPT Large Language Models. ChatGPT free users just got a big upgrade -- now you can make DALL-E images for free

OpenAI has been in a giving mood lately, offering ever more features previously reserved for the pro version of ChatGPT to those on the free plan, and now it is the turn of AI image generation in the form of access to DALL-E 3. DALL-E 3 is OpenAI's AI image generator and similar to tools like Midjourney, Flux or Ideogram it can create photorealistic images, render text and allow for inpainting. With the launch of GPT-4o earlier this year OpenAI made most of its paid-for features including image analysis, coding and use of custom GPTs free for the first time. It even made GPT-4o, the most powerful model on the platform available to free users (with a daily usage limit) but image generation wasn't on that list. It is straightforward to use, though, as ChatGPT does most of the work. As OpenAI wrote on X: "Just ask ChatGPT to create an image for a slide deck, personalize a card for a friend, or show you what something looks like" and it will make it for you. Be as descriptive as you can or ChatGPT will fill in any gaps based on its own training date. So if you want the card to feature a cat, specify that fact. Also, text rendering isn't perfect yet but if you put the words in double quotes it will be more accurate. While free users can now create images, they'll be restricted to two per day, so if you want to create multiple revisions or even enough images for a comic book, you'll need to find another platform or pay $20 per month for Pro. Earlier this year OpenAI announced its goal of putting the most powerful artificial intelligence technology in the hands of as many people as possible. To achieve that goal the company gave free users many of the features Pro subscribers took for granted including the ability to use a range of custom chatbots and features created by third parties. The biggest change was finally getting access to the most powerful model -- in this case GPT-4o -- rather than using the two-year-old GPT-3.5. That model has since been beaten in benchmarks by models that can run on a smartphone. Free users also have access to upload functionality. This allows them to use the AI vision and analysis features of GPT-4o where it can look at the details of an uploaded image and outline what it contains. You Can Now Try Google's Imagen 3 Generator

Google has opened up access to Imagen 3, its latest AI image generator capable of creating more detailed images from text prompts, to everyone in the United States. The updated tool leverages a latent diffusion model and offers such improvements over Imagen 2 as finer detail, better lighting, and fewer artifacts. This is Google's highest-quality image generator yet, and you can try it by visiting Google's AI Test Kitchen website, clicking "Sign in with Google," and using your Google Account credentials to log in. Folks who live outside the U.S. can bypass geo-restrictions by using a VPN. Imagen 3 has improved prompt understanding. The above image was created with a Google-provided example: "Photo of a felt puppet diorama scene of a tranquil nature scene of a secluded forest clearing with a large friendly, rounded robot is rendered in a risograph style. An owl sits on the robots shoulders and a fox at its feet. Soft washes of color, 5 color, and a light-filled palette create a sense of peace and serenity, inviting contemplation and the appreciation of natural beauty." In the future, the company will provide Imagen 3 versions tailored for specific tasks like creating quick sketches, outputting high-resolution images, and so forth. The company also published a research paper detailing the technology. However, peopl posted mixed feedback on Reddit, with many taking issue with heavy moderation. Don't try prompting Imagen 3 to create images featuring Taylor Swift or Super Mario, because it ignores requests for public figures, weapons, and copyrighted characters. Google admitted to leveraging "extensive filtering and data labeling to minimize harmful content in datasets and reduced the likelihood of harmful outputs." Google announced Imagen during I/O in May, but a few people could use the tool in private preview restricted to select members of the Vertex AI platform. Google previously had an image generation model within Gemini, but removed it due to poor reception. Even though Imagen 3 employs Google's latest and greatest AI models to generate realistic video clips out of text prompts, it doesn't hold a candle to OpenAI's much more impressive Sora. To assuage concerns regarding deepfakes, Imagen uses Google's SynthID technology to apply cryptographic watermarks. Another concern is among the creator community, as people who create visuals for a living are increasingly seeing image generators stealing their hard work to train their algorithms. Because Google's generative AI indemnification policy does not cover text-to-live images, you really need to think twice before using Imagen 3 images in commercial work because doing so might expose you to potential copyright claims.
