Photoroom offers effective object removal tools and AI backgrounds for smartphone photos. Canva, Photoshop Express, and Pixomatic provide a variety of AI tools to enhance and simplify smartphone photography editing.
You can use AI to save time editing your photos in several ways, such as removing backgrounds and quickly making color-based adjustments. This guide will show you our list of the best AI tools to improve your smartphone photography.
1 Pixlr
Pixlr is one of my favorite tools for resizing images online, and it also has a handful of AI tools that can help your smartphone images stand out. The Generative Fill tool, for example, lets you choose an area of the picture and replace it with whatever you want. To replace part of your image (or generate something new), you have to enter a text prompt.

You can use Pixlr to remove the background if you'd like to replace it with a block color. However, I must admit that I had mixed results here; it sometimes took out too much of the image. And if you've taken a photo with other people, you can use the Face Swap tool to create a fun image for social media.
If you want to use Generative Fill, you'll get 50 credits. Each prompt costs one. For more advanced image editing, consider learning how to combine two photos using Generative Fill in Photoshop.

2 Adobe Express
Adobe Express is another superb tool for improving your smartphone photos; in addition to AI adjustments, I'd also recommend it for basic manual photo editing. With Adobe Express, you can remove objects by brushing an entire area and choosing your brush size. This is a great option if you want to remove unwanted blemishes and intrusive items like trash cans.

If you want to take things further, Adobe Express also lets you remove the entire background. Furthermore, you can insert new objects with Generative Fill. This works similarly to Pixlr; you'll have to enter a text prompt to explain what you want to appear in your picture.
When using Adobe Express, you can also use text prompts to create templates for your smartphone photos. This is one of many cool things you can do with Adobe Express.

3 Photoroom
Photoroom will automatically remove your photo's background when you upload it, but you can skip this. I would recommend skipping it unless you were already planning to remove the background, but note that you have to do this quickly because the removal doesn't take a long time.

You have an impressive suite of AI tools available in Photoroom, such as a retouching tool that lets you brush different parts of your image to remove unwanted objects. I tried this myself, and compared to many other options out there, it's one of the most effective object-removal tools in my opinion.
The app also has an AI background tool that allows you to choose from several preset options, such as mountain, beach, and street. Since Photoroom also has plenty of manual editing tools you can use (e.g. saturation, shadows, and hue), it's an ideal tool if you want to combine AI and manual photo editing.

4 Photoshop Express
Photoshop Express is another fantastic smartphone photo editing tool in general, and it has a handful of AI tools if you want to speed up your adjustments. One of its most helpful is the Generative Expand feature, which allows you to stretch your picture across a bigger area. You can choose between square, portrait, widescreen, and landscape.

To be honest, I think that the Generative Expand tool does need a bit of work. When trying to convert a portrait picture to landscape, it made parts of my picture look strange. So, if you're going to use it, I recommend picking something with just one subject or using it for the same aspect ratio.
Photoshop Express also has a Generative Fill tool that lets you change the background and add different things to your picture.

5 Canva's AI Photo Editor
You can create several things in Canva with minimal effort, and its AI photo editor is another way to simplify your workflow. You will need a Canva Pro subscription to use the majority of Canva's AI photo editing tools, but you can get a free trial if you want to try them first.
To be honest, I recommend using this tool in your web browser because it crashed when I tried it on my mobile device. Nonetheless, you will have access to numerous editing tools regardless where you access the app. These include a Magic Edit feature that lets you brush over parts of your image and add a text prompt to determine what you should do next.
Other Canva AI tools to consider using include its background remover, along with a Magic Expander and Magic Grab feature.

6 Pixomatic
Pixomatic has a handful of AI tools to enhance your smartphone pictures, such as the Cut feature that will remove areas outside of what you select. You can also select the parts of your picture that you'd like to blur, making it a handy option if you want to go for more of a bokeh effect with a camera that doesn't have Portrait Mode.

You'll also find a Magic Cut feature in Pixomatic, which will remove your background without you having to do much. These features sit alongside others such as shape cutting, clone stamps, filters, cropping, and more.

7 Magic Eraser Background Editor
Magic Eraser is a simple AI editing tool with just a couple of features. You can easily remove your background, and it's also possible to get rid of specific objects. Both tools will let you draw over the areas you'd like to delete.

With the Object Removal feature, you can choose whether you'd like to select an area of your picture with the Lasso or Line. Moreover, you can clone specfic parts if you wish. If you have a free plan, you can use up to three daily erases.
